Entrevista de la Primera Ronda: Rickie Fowler
RICKIE FOWLER: I'm not sure. I think prior to this one of my best days with some big numbers, I mean, Augusta, I doubled 1 and I doubled 10 and shot 68. This has to be the lowest I've shot with a quad, though. That doesn't happen a whole lot.
I was really just trying to get out of that hole the best that I could with being out of position. Really didn't make a bad swing. Made a decent swing with driver, just got it a little bit on the toe and it started moving and got on the other side of the wind. As you know, it was a little breezy out there this morning.
Yeah, after that it was try and salvage whatever score I could. Unfortunately, that was an 8, but yeah, been feeling good with where the swing's at, where my game's at, the progress I've been seeing. Just kind of kept moving forward.
Two holes later I hit another one a little bit left down in the hazard, penalty area. Made a great bogey there. Just kept moving forward. I think I did a really good job of just not worrying about what happened, kind of accepted that balls getting a little offline were going to happen with how windy it is. There's a lot of trouble around the golf course on both sides. It's not like you ever have a side that you can favor; there's trouble on both sides pretty much every hole. Definitely happy about it.
Kind of after I birdied the short par 3, No. 4, I went back, I told Joe, like we can still actually shoot under par with everything that's gone on today. It took some work. Yeah, I'm definitely happy with what we were able to do and salvage what could have been a really bad day.
Q. With conditions as tough as they were, did that birdie really just start having you think positively for that remaining stretch?
RICKIE FOWLER: Kind of remained optimistic all day because even after making the 8, it was on my third hole, I birdied the first two, got off to a good start, made good swings. Get up and I had an easy pitch that I was thinking about that I could make for eagle and thinking, you know, after all this I could be even through 4 or make the birdie and be 1 over. Just trying to think as positive as possible and continue to move forward. I think making good swings after the ones that were a little off, continuing to make birdies, it allows you to make some little mistakes here and there. Now it's time to continue making birdies and try to eliminate the mistakes.
